Silicon and protonic compute

Most AI today runs on conventional silicon in large, power-intensive facilities. We are designing Opal Black to take advantage of emerging silicon and protonic compute architectures that promise to move more work per watt and reduce the environmental cost of inference.

Protonic approaches — using protons instead of electrons for certain on-chip operations — are an active research direction for ultra-low-energy logic and memory. Opal Black follows this work closely so the product can adopt validated hardware as it becomes available.

Greener by design

Efficiency is not only about hardware. Opal Black selects models by capability-per-watt, caches where safe, batches work, and surfaces honest usage so users can choose lighter models when they are good enough. The goal is useful AI with less waste.

Private and persistent

Your conversations are isolated to your account, saved across sessions, and given their own URLs. That persistence means Opal Black can become a long-running workspace rather than a disposable chat window.

Open to more models

Add your own API keys to bring extra models into the workspace, or use the Opal Black platform exclusively. We do not source models or infrastructure from Chinese providers.
